The Glorious First Week of Summer

One of my goals this summer is to take more pictures (though that's always a goal) but also live in the moment. (We'll see how those two work together.) But that means I want to share some pictures with you all. I will hopefully be doing one of these posts once a week as long as I take enough pictures.

I started off the week with seeing 22 Jump Street which was AM-AZING!!! Honestly, it was just as good as the first one and had some funnier twists. It was also more heart-wrenching. I'm not going to give anything away- but you should definitely go see it if you have the chance.

While I was in town for the movies I did a bit of shopping of course. I hit up Wal-Mart and The Body Shop.
There were fantastic deals at The Body Shop which I couldn't resist.
I got a full size Brazilian Nut Shower Cream for $5 (normally $9) and Chocolate Lip Butter for $2 (normally $6). That's right $7 for what would normally be $15. I'm especially excited about the Shower Cream for the colder months as I know it'll make for an amazing bubble bath.

At Wal-Mart I just got an NYC Eyeshadow in Best of Broadway.

I have also been cooking a bit and eating some delicious food as I tend to cook more in the summer when I have more time.

I made a delicious, sweet vinaigrette which I'm hoping to do another post about. I know it doesn't look that attractive, but it is seriously delicious.

I also made some chocolate cupcakes which were delicious and some granola which wasn't that great.

As well, with more fruit being grown this time of the year, I have had some delicious breakfasts.

I hope you all have had a fabulous first week of summer. Thanks for stopping by!

Summer Adventures

I've always craved adventure. Maybe it's my stay close to home, hometown pride upbringing that's made me want to go and have a taste of the rest of the world. But I have always wanted to travel, to get lost in a city and have an exciting story to tell when I get home. Despite the fact I've always craved adventure, I am not an adventurous person by nature in day to day life. And I kind of blame that on my upbringing and DNA. Neither of my parents are adventurous people by nature and have not traveled much. While I've always had wanderlust in my veins. While I don't think of myself as adventurous, I crave adventure. But I've never been rebellious at all. While often rebellion and adventure go hand in hand and are often confused, they are two very different things. Adventure is taking a gap year after high school to travel whereas rebellion is running away from home at fifteen to travel.

While obviously travel, wanderlust and adventure are commonly associated together. I've realized in recent months that adventure does not always mean travel or becoming rebellious or doing something really erratic. I can have adventures without all of that. And that is what I intend on doing this summer.

Yes, I am traveling a bit this summer but to places I've been to before. But that Does not mean I still can't have an adventure. And while I'm staying close to home I can still have adventures. Adventure is hanging out with someone that I don't usually hang out with. Adventure is exploring the area, meeting new people, trying something new, and living in the moment and enjoying every sweet, succulent minute of it. In fact dictionary.com's first definition of adventure is this: an exciting or very unusual experience, while the second and third definitions have to do with doing something hazardous and our usual associations with the word.

So have an adventure this summer. Cook something new. Kiss someone on a whim. Live in the moment and milk life for all that it's worth. Carpe Diem and have a fantastic summer. I know the adventurer is living inside all of us.

California Chicken Salad

Hello all! I am very sorry I haven't posted at all this week as I have been extremely busy finishing up the last bits and bobs of the school year. But now it's summer and time for another Blogger 2014 Challenge.

This week's 2014 Blogger Challenge topic is meals. As I have more time over the summer I tend to cook a lot more for myself as I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen when I have the time.

One experiment I tried a few months ago was this California Chicken Salad. It's super easy, healthy and affordable. My inspiration for it was this video but it is not exactly the same recipe.

Ingredients:
Greens or spinach
1 can of mandarins in their own juice (save the juice for a yummy dressing)
1 avacado, diced
olive oil
fresh squeezed lemon juice
salt and pepper
1 skinless, boneless chicken breast, chopped in bite size pieces
rosemary and italian seasoning or whatever seasonings you prefer
1 clove of garlic, minced

Instructions:

1. Heat a skillet on medium heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and clove of garlic. When heated add chicken. Squeeze lemon juice over top of chicken and add seasonings.

2. While chicken is cooking and sizzling away happily. Rinse greens off. Put greens into large bowl and add avacado and mandarins.

3. If chicken is fully cooked, take it off heat to cool.

4. While the chicken is cooling off, mix a few tablespoons of oil with the leftover juice from the mandarins. Mix with seasonings, salt and pepper. Set aside.

5. Add chicken to salad. Stir up dressing. Pour dressing around the outer part of the bowl (this keeps greens from getting soggy quickly) and toss. Enjoy!

I had perogies with it...mmmm..

There are lots of variations to this type of salad. You can add pomegranate seeds, feta cheese, almonds, berries or even dress it up with a raspberry vinaigrette.

Over the summer I'm gonna try to do more food posts as they're some of my favourites to write, so stay tuned for that. I hope you all have had a fantastic start to your summer and are having a lovely day. Adios!

Let's Talk About Air Conditioning...

I am not a fan of air conditioning at all. While I live in a place that does get quite hot in the summer, I still greatly dislike it.

It's been fairly nice and warm and ya know, spring-y for the last month where I live. And by warm I mean it's been between about 17 and 27 degrees Celsius. But for some reason my school decides to crank up the A/C for no reason. Which means I have to bundle up in or pack a sweater just so I don't freeze my hiney off whilst I'm in school. But then, as soon as I get out of the building I'm stripping down all the way home just to cool off. Plus, to top it off, the school decides to have a non- consistent air flow throughout the entire building. So in one class it will be so cold with the A/C blasting (no, not blasting AC/DC haha) and in other classes it will be stuffy and warm. Uggghh.

In my opinion, it has to be above 30 degrees Celsius at least to even think about turning on the A/C.

But outside of school, I generally greatly dislike air conditioning as well. I understand making a room or car comfortable. But, if you feel you need to cover up your legs with a sweater or blanket just to stay warm, then it's too cold. I mean, for heaven's sake, it's summer! We complain about the cold all winter and then blast air conditioning "just to cool off" while we're actually freezing our butts off in the middle of summer. That is just not right. In a lot of ways, I would rather be sweating in 35 degree weather than sitting in a "cool" room with the A/C turned way up.

While I understand that comfort is very important when it comes to temperature of a room/building, I think all people that control thermostats should think about consistency, comfort for everyone and not just crank the A/C (or heat) because they just came from outside and are extremely hot (or cold) and affect everyone else's comfort due to their rash and instantaneous emotions.

And there you have it, there's my rant for the day. I hope you have all had a lovely, warm and comfortable day that hasn't resulted in frostbite from air conditioning. :P

My Sundress Collection- 2014BloggerChallenge

I love dresses, especially in the warmer months of the year. They make for quick, but sophisticated outfits as all you have to worry about are accessories. Plus, they are quite cool for those really hot, summer days. Which is why I've decided to share my beloved sundress collection with you all.

Given to me
This dress is actually from Paris (ohh la la). This was given to my aunt from a niece of hers who happens to live in Paris and it didn't end up fitting my aunt so she gave it to me.

Buttons + Pockets + A belt (not pictured) = was not able to resist
Wal-Mart
This dress might not look like much on the hanger, but the amount of compliments I get whenever I wear this dress is ridiculous. It is for sure my favourite dress of this entire collection, just due to the fact it fits me to a T.
Obviously I have a few more dresses than this but these are my favourite. What's one of your summer must-haves? I'd love to hear from ya'll in the comments.

April and May Favourites

I can't believe it's already the end of May! This year is going by way so fast that I just wish I could slow down time for a bit.

I didn't do an April Favourites, so this is a combined April & May Favourites, in case you didn't read the title. I have tried a lot of new products this month, so there is a lot of stuff to talk about. Enjoy!

St. Ives Even & Bright Body Wash I love St. Ives' face washes a lot (I talk about one in my empties post). And this body wash is no different. It lathers up well- I've even used it for a bubble bath before, plus it smells really yummy and fresh and bright.

Garnier Purifying Toning Lotion At first, I was super turned off by the smell of this stuff because it smelled like mushy cucumbers to me. But I am really starting to like this stuff a lot. It's refreshing and cleans make up off really well.

Body Shop Cranberry Joy Body Butter Yes, this is one of their holiday special edition body butters from Christmas time. But since I don't like fruity scents that much in the winter, I didn't really use it until about a month ago and I'm really liking this scent for summer.

Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie I love this colour. It is the absolute perfect match for me. It's pretty much my natural lip colour in glossy form.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation I know everyone always talks about it, but I finally tried it and my, oh my is it amazing. It's light and it stays forever. My face also doesn't feel greasy at the end of the day with it on, which I love.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm I was surprised how much I like this stuff. It lasts pretty long, has decent coverage, has SPF 30 (gotta love that for the summer) and makes my skin look alive and glowy.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in #440 Mint Sprint This colour is such a perfect green-teal colour, which is perfect for summer.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer I am in love with this stuff. Wearing this and the Maybelline BB cream together really brightens up my face and I love that.

New York Color Mosaic Face Powder in Rose Glow This is an old favourite and I am in love with it again this summer. I think I've worn this stuff every summer for like the last three summers and it still impresses me.

Schik Quattro Disposable Razors I don't think I am ever going back to regular, cheap disposable razors again. These shave so well, have a good smell and are just amazing.

I hope you all have had a good May and will also have a fantastic June. Have a happy, sun-filled day!
